“The benefits of optimizing your heat settings”
Published Wednesday November 17, 2010
Here are some important aspects to keep in mind when configuring your heat settings for your thermal printers. First, the more heat you apply doesn't equal to better barcodes or higher print quality, the only thing you will do is help the elements of your printhead burn faster. A well adjust heat settings will contribute to a better and faster barcode decoding, if your heat is too low the contrast (black vs. white) will not be high enough and the scanner will have trouble determining the width of the bars. A high heat settings will create a better contrast but there is a great risk of creating deformed bars within the barcodes and therefore smaller white spaces between each bars. Also, if the heat is push very high you will melt the ribbon itself which then leaves the printhead vulnerable to dirt and damages. Sometimes it's better to slow down the speed of the printing than pushing the heat higher, the longer the label stays under the printhead the better the print quality tends to be. Remember that there are no pre-determined settings, each labels materials has it's own attributes that makes it easier or harder to print on.

RMA #- Procedures and conditions
For additional information or to request a materials return, contact our service department at RMA@viascan.com

Viascan recommends regular cleaning of the printhead. Regular cleaning will prolong the life duration of the printhead. Cleaning cards are available in various formats.
Cards: The cleaning card consists of two layers of soft, absorbent, non-abrasive, compressible fibers that are bonded to a thin substrate of plastic material. The cleaning card should typically be made to the corresponding industry specification. The cleaning card is used to clean concealed components in certain electronic equipment.
Thermal Print Head Cleaning Card: Cleaning cards are used to remove dust, debris, burnt-on contaminants from the thermal print head, allowing the thermal print head to print accurately without blurred images, line images or no images; ultimately extending the life of the print head.
